The case study I chose was Workplace Behavior.

Brief Summary: Diane joined a top research team led by Max, a brilliant but abusive technical leader. After a small error, Max insulted Diane publicly and excluded her from a live demo. When Diane reported the behavior to manager Jean, she was told to “grow up.” The team has a pattern of Max verbally attacking staff and removing womens names from academic papers as punishment.

Relevant ACM Code Principles:

1.4 (Fair Access): This principle requires professionals to “promote fair participation of all people.” Maxs pattern of removing only womens names from manuscripts shows discriminatory retaliation that eliminates these team members equal access to professional credit and advancement.

3.3 (Well-being of Colleagues): This principle requires creating “safe, healthy, and productive work environments.” Jean violated this by dismissing Dianes complaint and treating abuse as a normal cost of success which justified psychological harm.
