Others who are in the public eye, such as sports figures, have also found themselves in the media spotlight following rape allegations. While it may be assumed that those who sexually offend are transient or lack the skill set to be successful in their professional lives, many sex offenders have successful careers and, in some cases, are in positions of authority. Child molestation occurs in a variety of settings and institutions, such as schools, childcare settings, athletic organizations, and civic organizations (e.g., Boy Scouts of America, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Scouts Canada). Research to find a media case, whether old or new that attention was proud to an adult predator that abused a child through a church, teacher, or mentor role.
