NO USE OF ANY AI
DIRECTIONS
Using what you have learned thus far in the course, your task is to critically analyze the criminal legal system (CLS) by answering the questions below. Be sure that your responses are detailed, thorough, and clearly demonstrate specific things you have learned and your ability to use your sociological imagination. Your response should be at least 750 words.
Be sure you complete your work in Google Docs, number your responses so they correspond to the prompts/questions below, and then save them in a PDF format for submission. And avoid at all costs doing anything that might compromise the academic integrity of your work.

Revised Academic Honesty Statement Beginning 3/11/26:
The usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in this course is prohibited. You may NOT use AI to help with summarizing information, generating ideas, proofreading/editing, or anything else for assignments in this course. In other words, do NOT use AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grammarly, Quillbot, etc. for any reason, no matter how innocuous it may seem. You are still required to complete your assignments in Google Docs so that we have a clear version history if needed.
Below is a list of suggestions to help you avoid Turn It In flagging your work as AI generated in error.
Ways to Help Reduce the Likelihood of Turn It In Flagging Your Work as AI Generated:
- Steer Clear of Grammar Tools: The use of automated “style improvers” (like Grammarly*) can make text too uniform and polished, which AI detectors identify as artificial. If you want help improving your writing, utilize the
- Ditch Paraphrasing Tools: Paraphrasing tools (like Quillbot) often keep original sentence structures and rhythms, which AI detectors will flag.
- Use Your Personal Voice: AI lacks personal experience. Add unique anecdotes, specific examples, or personal analysis to your work to showcase the fact that the work is your own.
- Abstain from Perfectly Uniform Structure: Avoid having a consistent, “perfect” rhythm in every paragraph and avoid overly formal, monotonous, or generic language. AI tends to be very consistent; human writing has more “burstiness” (varied sentence lengths and complexity).
- Draft in Stages: Write in your own voice over a period of time utilizing Google Docs so that you have a clear version history if you are accused of academic dishonesty.
