Although not covered in depth within your course textbook, outside research should be conducted on these topics for this journal assignment, and because they will be part of the CPA competency map. Students are expected to develop a certain understanding of new technologies and how they have impacted and/or will impact the accounting profession.

For your journal, begin by selecting one topic from the list below:

• Machine learning and how it transforms the accounting profession;
• XBRL, iXBRL and how they transform financial reporting;
• Cloud computing and its security implications;
• Internet of Things (loT) and its implications for the accounting profession;
• Blockchain technology and its implication for audit;
• Cryptocurrency, digital assets, and related accounting issues;
• Robotic process a(RPA) and its usage in accounting and auditing.

Based on the one topic you selected, address the following in your journal:

• Provide an overview of the topic you selected.
• Simply covering the textbook material is insufficient for a good grade. There is a research component and a critical thinking component required when thinking about how technology impacts the accounting profession.
• Discuss how your chosen technology relates to an accounting principle or recommends a solution based on financial data analysis.
• Explain how businesses identify risks and opportunities associated with disruptive technologies.
• Give one example of how businesses mitigate risks through internal controls.
