PART 1: Create an experiment using AI (AI allowed)
First, decide:
- Research topic
- Population/sample
- Independent Variable (IV)
- Dependent Variable (DV)
Then:
- Go to an AI tool (ChatGPT, etc.)
- Ask it to create an experiment WITHOUT mentioning confounding variables or experimental control
- If it does it wrong, fix your prompt and try again
IMPORTANT:
- Copy and paste the entire conversation (your prompts + AI responses)
- Do NOT edit anything
PART 2: Confounding Variable (NO AI allowed)
You must:
- Identify one confounding variable
- In 23 sentences explain:
- What it is
- How it affects both IV and DV
- Why it weakens cause-and-effect
- Choose one experimental control method and explain:
- How it reduces the problem
- Why it strengthens the study
PART 3: Revise the experiment using AI (AI allowed)
Go back to the same AI chat
Tell the AI:
- Your confounding variable
- Your control method
Ask it to:
- Revise the experiment including that control
Again:
- Copy and paste the full conversation (no edits)
PART 4: Evaluation (NO AI allowed)
Answer each question (at least 2 sentences each):
- Did the revision fix the confound? Why?
- Did it improve cause-and-effect? Explain
- Is there still a weakness? What is it?
- Did the AI understand your control method?
- What did you learn about AI limitations?
PART 5: Final Submission
Submit ONE document (Word or PDF) in this order:
- Topic + Population + IV + DV
- Part 1 (full AI transcript)
- Part 2 (your work)
- Part 3 (full AI transcript)
- Part 4 (evaluation)
- AI Use Statement (required)
If you forget the AI statement you get a 0
