Your essay should be 1200-1500 words, fully cited*, with at least one reference from a scholarly book or journal (Wikipedia or other online encyclopedias do NOT count, although you may consult them). You should include at least one primary source.

Identify an event that you think shaped global history significantly. If you are considering a large topic, such as World War II, try to narrow down your discussion to one event. If you are writing about a topic that is U.S.-focused, you must connect it to the larger global picture. Your essay should not repeat a discussion topic from earlier in the course.

In your essay, you should address the following:

• Origins – How did it come about? Who was involved? When did it start and why?
• What are the key components?
• What happened after?
• Why is this event significant to global history?
