Process Recording

Process Recording

Process recordings help social work students analyze the dialogue, feelings, and applied skills and techniques present in client interactions. By processing your work in this way, you can gain new insights on your strengths and areas for improvement. You can also be intentional about the assessments and interventions you select and carefully consider how effective or ineffective they prove to be.

In your Field I course, you wrote two process recordings, and in this course, you will complete two more. For this Assignment, you submit a process recording focusing on the skills of engagement, assessment, and intervention.

To prepare:

  • Review the Process Recording: BSW interactive media in the Learning Resources for a refresher on the content and purpose of process recordings.
  • Download the Week 5 Process Recording Template from the Learning Resources.

Using the Week 5 Process Recording Template, submit a process recording of a client interaction. The process recording should include the social work skills of engagement, assessment, and intervention.

  • Provide a transcript of what happened during your field experience, including a dialogue of interaction with a client.
  • Explain your interpretation of what occurred in the dialogue.
  • Describe your reactions, including what you were thinking and feeling, and/or any issues related to the client interaction.
  • Describe your interaction with your field instructor, and explain how it affects your practice.
  • Explain how you applied social work practice skills when performing the activities during your process recording. The process recording should include the social work skills of engagement, assessment, and intervention.

Note: You should also share your process recordings with your field instructor during your individual supervision.

Important: Adherence to confidentiality is required in your process recordings. Do not include real names of clients, supervisors, or social workers with whom you may come into contact during your social work field education experience. Omit any personal identifiers when detailing the interaction with your social work clients.
