Hi,
This assignment is called Evaluation & Methods Design, and it is based on a program my group has been working on all semester called the Mindful Migration Program. The program focuses on African immigrant women and aims to improve mental health awareness and reduce anxiety.
For this assignment, I am not creating a new program. I am building on my previous work. I already chose my outcome, which is increased awareness of mental health struggles, and I am using a measurement tool called the Mental Health Knowledge Schedule (MAKS) to measure this outcome. This information comes from my previous worksheet, and I need to stay consistent with it.
– For Part 2 (Data Collection Strategies), I need to explain how I will collect my data. I am using surveys, specifically the MAKS survey, and I will most likely collect data before and after the program (pre and post). I need to explain how many data points I will collect, which would be around 50 participants since that is required for the program. I also need to justify why I chose surveys and explain how the method fits my outcome. If I include mixed methods, I should explain how quantitative data (numbers from surveys) and qualitative data (participant experiences) work together.
I also need to explain when the data will be collected (before and after the program) and who will collect it, such as program staff or peer leaders.
In addition, my professor requires that I use in-text citations and include sources to support my choices. I already have sources from previous assignments that I can reuse. I also need to submit the PDFs of those sources separately.
The paper should be no longer than 1.5 pages, single-spaced, and written in full sentences, not bullet points. The wording should be simple and sound like student work, not overly complex. Overall, the goal of this assignment is to clearly explain how I will evaluate my program in a realistic way, using the outcome and measurement tool I already selected.
– For Part 3, the professor wants us to write short paragraphs explaining how each outcome is being measured. Each group member has their own outcome, and each person is responsible for their own section. For me, I only need to focus on my own outcome, not my group members.
My outcome is increased awareness of mental health struggles, and the construct I am measuring is mental health knowledge and awareness.
The main goal of this part is to clearly explain three things: what I am measuring, what tool I am using to measure it, and exactly how that tool works in real life.
First, I need to clearly state my outcome and the construct it represents. Then, I need to explain what tool or scale I am using. My professor strongly prefers that we use a previously validated tool, not something we create ourselves.
After that, I need to describe how the tool works in detail. This includes explaining the response options (like the type of scale used), how the tool is scored, the range of possible scores, and how to interpret those scores (for example, what a low score means versus a high score).
I also need to include a citation for the tool and provide a link to it. If I made any changes to the tool, I would need to explain what I changed and why. If I didnt make any changes, I still need to clearly state that.
Overall, the professor wants to see that I understand my outcome, that I am using a reliable measurement tool, and that I can clearly explain how that tool is used and interpreted in a real-world evaluation.
Pleae keep in mind that the assignment needs to be completed correctly and based on the example the professor provided. I will also attach the previous assignments that are connected to this one in case you need to refer to them while completing it. Please let me know if you would like me to send those as well.
When completing this assignment, please use simple wording.
*Please do NOT use AI or ChatGPT-generated language and do not plagiarize, as my professor is very strict about originality and academic integrity. All responses should be written in original wording and should sound like student work.*
*If you have access to Turnitin, please run my assignment through Turnitin. The assignment needs to have a 0% AI report. Please send me the report once the assignment is completed.*
Here are the professor’s instructions for the assignment:
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
This assignment should be written in paragraph form using full sentences; you should not use bullet points. Your paper should be single-spaced and 12-point font, using Times New Roman, Calibri or Arial. It should not be longer than 1.5 pages (not including a reference page).
You must work off of Google docs and submit the live Google doc link. This will be your assignment submission.
You must use in-text citations.
You must submit PDFs of all literature you cite in your assignment. They must be labeled with the last name of the author and the year of the publication. I recommend creating a Google folder for each assignment where you can organize everything in one place. Please refer to Week 4 lecture slides if you need guidance.
NON-ADHERENCE TO ANY OF THESE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES WILL RESULT IN A 0 ON THE ASSIGNMENT.
ASSUMPTIONS OF YOUR PROGRAM EVALUATION: Though each program in this class is unique and each group will have the freedom to create evaluation outcomes that are of interest to them, the following assumptions must be included:
- Your program included 50 participants
- Your program will include 1 summative evaluation outcome (impact or outcome) for each member of your group. Each member will have “ownership” over an outcome.
- NEW THIS WEEK! Each student is responsible for becoming an expert on how their measurement tool is used in the real world.
- NEW THIS WEEK! Dr. Bloom will create mock data which you will analyze for Group Assignment #3. Dr. Bloom will use a random number generator, so it will be random if your outcome is met or not met — you’ll need to engage in data analysis to determine if your outcome was or was not met
ASSIGNMENT COMPONENTS:
Part 1: Evaluation Study Design (1 paragraph – 5 points)
- What type of study design will you use for your evaluation (experimental, quasi-experimental, or non-experimental)?
- Will you have a control or comparison group? If yes, who are they and how will you recruit them?
- What type of evaluation are you conducting (quantitative only or mixed methods)?
Part 2: Data Collection Strategies (1 paragraph – 5 points)
- What data collection methods will you use (e.g., surveys, focus groups, interviews, observation)? How many data points will you collect (e.g., 50 pre and post surveys / 4 focus groups)
- Justify why you chose these methods? If you are using mixed methods, explain how your qualitative and quantitative methods complement each other.
- When will you collect data? (e.g., pre-test, mid-point, post-test, follow-up)
- Who will collect the data (e.g., program staff, peer leaders, external evaluators
- Part 3: Defining Constructs & Measures (4 mini paragraphs one per outcome / construct – 10 pointsUsing the Evaluation Instrument Builder Assignment from Week 9 as a guide:
- List your outcomes – there should be one per person in your group. Clearly identify what construct that outcome is measuring.
- Examples: decrease in alcohol use, decrease in tobacco use, decrease in depression, increase in confidence, increase condom usage, decrease exposure to pesticides).
- Tool / Scale / Interview or Focus Group Guide selection: Which survey, scale, or qualitative instrument will you use to measure the construct? There should be one scale or one interview / focus guide for each outcome. Most of you should be using a previously validated tool (e.g., AUDIT scale; PHQ 9). Please get in touch with Dr. Bloom and Nichelle ASAP if you think you are unable to use a previously validated tool.
- Notes:
- For constructs that do not have a formal scale, refer to best-practice measures like
- For those of you using a clinical guidline (e.g., BMI, recommended prenatal visits, HBA1c), be sure to write and cite the clinical recommendation.
- For qualitative measurement, indicate what article or website you used to develop your interview / focus guide questions. You should have a minimum of 5 qualitative questions in your interview or focus guide.
- If you modified any of the language in the previously validated tool, be sure to clearly describe what you changed and why.
- If you wrote any questions by yourself, explain your rationale for not using a validated scale and describe how you ensured your questions are clear and relevant.
- Notes:
- Cite the tool / scale / interview guide. Provide a link to the tool and describe how the tool is utilized, specifically:
- What are the response options,
- How is the scale scored,
- What is the lowest possible score and the highest possible score (i.e., the range)
- How do you interpret the scores? (e.g., what does a low score mean; what does a high score mean; are there any clear cutpoints in the data)?
- List your outcomes – there should be one per person in your group. Clearly identify what construct that outcome is measuring.
