What comes next?

Describe your organized plan for your Inquiry/Research essay by doing the following:

Create a synthesis chart using your annotated bibliography. Refer to . Analyze the topics each of your sources covers and then organize those topics on a Synthesis chart. A blank chart is attached. You can include information from your primary research on your chart where it applies. For example: If one of the topics in your essay is the causes of Alzheimer’s and you have information about causes from an interview you conducted with a physician, put “Interview” in the source box to remind you that you have information about causes in your interview. Another example: You researched social media and mental health and one of your topics is cyber bullying. If you conducted a survey and asked a question about cyber bullying, you could put that question under that topic.

Then, in a narrative paragraph, describe the following:

  • What is your thesis statement?
  • Will you argue inductively or deductively?
  • How will you organize your research? If your plan is to use headers, what will they be? Remember headers can be used in APA style. The are like sub titles of the different sections/topics of your essay. The topics that you choose on your synthesis chart could serve as headers.
  • How many of your 6 sources do you plan to use?
  • Are you done with your research or do you feel that you need to do more?

Once you have this plan, you can begin writing. If you are having difficulty with this planning, come and see me ASAP. I will help discuss the possibilities that you have and help you to create a plan.
