Discussion 1- Creativity, Elements, Principles, and Criticism
Mar 9 – Mar 22
Choose one topic.
Write your answer clearly with correct grammar and punctuation. Write it in word or on a google doc first to check the grammar and punctuation. Do not cut and paste or quote from other sources. The answers to these questions are to be from your own ideas and thoughts. This should be 2-4 paragraphs long. You should respond to at least two other comments, and don’t let your only comment for a question be “I agree with…” Explain why you feel that way.
1. Creative Types-
Complete the creativity type test at Creative Types (https://mycreativetype.com/) It’s short and animated. Keep the quiz open after you finish.
What creative type did you get? Read the description. What do you agree with in the description? What do you do that makes you agree with that description? What do you disagree with in the description? Why don’t you think that fits you? Who do you work well with? What kind of career would let you use these strengths? Think creatively and answer the question. Don’t just write, I don’t know. Do you think the little adobe character is a good example of this personality? Were you more creative as a child or are you more creative now? Write several sentences. Is it possible for a person to be too creative or for a society to have too many creative people? Write several sentences. What might happen if people stopped making art and didn’t try to be creative? What if we just let AI do it all?
2. Color and emotion-
The movies Inside Out and Inside Out 2 emphasize using color to show the different emotions. For example, you might hear people say: Have you ever been so angry that you see red? Have you ever felt blue? What about the expression in the pink? Do you know someone who has a green thumb?
How do you respond to color in everyday life? Is your response to color in art the same or different? What is the effect of color on our moods, actions, and health? Do you tend to wear certain colors to feel a certain way or if you are in a specific mood? When you think of specific restaurants, how would you describe their color schemes? Find an artwork in Chapter 1-5 that has a color scheme you really like. Why do you like it? Why is that color scheme important to that artwork?
3. Unity and Variety-
What is your favorite kind of breakfast cereal? How do designers incorporate both cohesive elements and distinctive features to attract consumers while maintaining brand identity? Then choose an artwork in the textbook to identify how the artist uses unity and variety to create both interest and order.
4. Critical Influence-
Have you ever changed your behavior or style of dress due to criticism by friends or family members? How do you think artists react to unfavorable criticism? Do they change their style to please the critics? Discuss the consequences of an art critics evaluation of an artists work in terms of the success of the artists career, the placement of artworks in prominent collections and museums, or the price a work of art might get at auction.
